Hi Alumni,

It’s been a decade; our first batch (1997-2001) left the campus.  On this occasion, our first batch students settled in USA planned an Alumni Family Reunion from 5th -7th August 2011 at Massanutten, Virginia, USA.

Having collaborated with significant number of our alumnus from 1997-2001 batch, with regards to a convenient time and place that would suit most of the members for personal participation, we are happy to announce that the next alumni meet for 1997-2001 batch, would be conducted from 5th - 7th of August 2011 at Massanutten, Virginia, USA

The college management understands & appreciates the support we have been getting from our alumni at different levels helping us improve the quality of education we can impart to our current students and future students. The college management certainly wants to continue to engage our alumni as a primary stake-holder that can serve as a bridge between the college and the industry helping institution keep in touch with the changing needs and expectations of the industry and help institution gear up its operations to meet the anticipated needs. To that extent, college certainly feels alumni body has a significantly important role to play in providing direction to the college.

The event is entirely being planned under the aegis of the Alumni association

I on behalf of the association wish to request you all (1997-2001 batch) to attend the event and make it a grand success.

TCS's new selection pattern
2010.10.29 01:15:59
1. Aptitude Test : The previous pattern has been drastically changed. They are not gonna test your verbal ability anymore. The test comes with 35 questions(60 mins). Negative marks @ 0.33/wrong ans. The trick is that the questions are too long & the real problem lies in the last 2 sentences. I was able to attend 32, but even guys who attended 16 got short-listed.
2. Technical Interview: In this Round they will ask your favorite subject and questions will mostly be based on that. I took up Digital Electronics and 8085 programming as my favorites. But I had done a software using VB.NET and was asked questions dealing with database creation, primary key, foreign key etc. Don’t be upset if  U don’t know the ans. Be frank and bold. You should come well prepared with your favorite subjects.
3. Management Review Interview: Here your management abilities are tested. The interviewer asked me to explain about myself. I went through my details including academics, family and hobbies. Then he asked me about the different establishments of TATA. Next he wanted me to explain the latest trends in the software field. I was then ask to brief up the TCS profile. He then asked me whether I know about Rathan Tata’s retirement from the chairman’s post. Be bold and don’t talk rubbish and accept if you don’t  know something. I was a bit worried after this round. But by god’s grace I got into the next round.
4. Group Discussion: This had two parts, the first being your self introduction and the second being the discussion about the topic. Anyone can start the Self Introduction and here I scored by starting first. Then everybody( we had 10 in our group) did the same. Then we got the topic which was REALITY SHOWS. Luckily this was a topic about which I could say something. Don’t keep your mouth shut. Try to open the talk by yourself if possible. Try to bring out valid points and don’t spit out words just to keep the talk going. Face everybody while talking and don’t keep your face fixed on a single person. The time allotted for topic discussion is 5 mins, so bring out all your ideas within that short span.

Hemanth Poolla
A Little about GAIL India Ltd, (and me in GAIL........)
2010.08.29 20:52:06

Hi Everyone. I am Hemanth Poolla, passout from 2005-2009 batch from Chemical Dept. First of all my hearty congratulations to team MAA for their superb work on the website. I've seen the Alumni website only yesterday after its initial stages and it has come a long way.

I am working as a Senior Engineer in Gas Authority of India Limited (its now called GAIL India Ltd). GAIL was initially envisaged to be the pioneer in Gas transmission in India. Its has an extensive network of Gas pipelines through out India ( both raw natural gas and LPG). But of late GAIL is diversefying into other businesses in the natural gas supply chain namely Exploration and Production(E&P) and Petrochemicals. For those of you who are hungry for numbers- GAIL's turnover in 2009-2010 was 24,996 crore with net profit of 3,140 crores. GAIL has a 78% share in Natural gas transmission and 70% share in Natural gas marketing.

GAIL has a Petrochemical plant at PATA, Uttarpradesh, about 120 kms from Kanpur. This is the place where I am working. The main product from our plant is Polyethylene polymer in its various forms- High Density Poly-Ethylene(HDPE) , Linear Low Density Poly-Ethylene(LLDPE) in various grades like rafia, film grade e.t.c. We produce polymer pellets, bag them and market them. Apart from polymer our other products include LPG, Naphtha, MFO, Pentane, Propane, Propylene, Hydrogenated C4 mix e.t.c.

Only last month our Board has approved the doubling of our plant capacity in terms of polymer production , we presently produce 420,000 TPA of polymers, we are planning to scale this up to 1000,000 TPa. What this means for my juniors back at college? lots of jobs!, upscaling my plant means atleast 200 more jobs on the process side itself. Combined with Mintanence, instrumentation and other support services its approximately 450 more jobs at my plant. GAIL has already started recruiting in advance for expansion , thats how I got into GAIL in the first place. So to all my friends back at college, please do keep a lookout for advertisement of GAIL.

This being my first blog, it may seem a little lacklusture in organisation and content, do pardon me for that,  and to all the potential chemical engineers out there i will be writing another post describing my job, workplace and how it is on he other side of the river. Till then signing off..............

Kindly join hands in realizing the objective of this E-plus club
2010.07.17 01:20:50

Dear Alumni,

We, the English faculty, as a team initiated E-plus clubs at MVGR College in collaboration with ‘The Hindu’ newspaper to help students from rural background better their communication skills and English language. Its a known fact that these students despite being good in academics that is their core subjects are not able to perform well in career related aspects such as job interviews, GD’s, Competitive exams etc due to lack of proper communication skills. We are hopeful that this program which we have started is definitely going to help better their career prospects. However on behalf of our college English faculty I request you to contribute in terms of suggestions, by sharing your professional experiences , anything relevant to this concept. Consider this as an appeal to Alumni esp those who also belong to similar background and have overcome hurdles in the form of communication skills in your career path. These experiences shared online can be highly motivating for the present struggling students. Alumni who are with corporate sectors, settled in foreign nations can mail their suggestions & feedback to the S&H Department through Alumni website. Kindly join hands in realizing the objective of this E-plus club.

Thank you

D.Swathi Patnaik

Assistant Professor

S&H Department.

Message from 2004-2008 IT Praveen in response to the applications for a job referred by him in IBM
2010.06.20 07:48:29
Hello All,

Good morning. First of all thank you for your responses and sending your resumes. Some of you are eligible for the post of Unix/Windows junior systems admin (Fresher) for Server and System Operations (SSO) at International Business Machines (IBM).
Congratulations!!

By this time you should see an email in your Inbox with subject "A friend has referred you for a job at IBM" asking you to register in the w3 portal and requesting for some additional information post registration. Go ahead thoroughly each and every point and then fill up the form.
Do not keep any false information because, the next moment you submit this form, IBM may engage a third party team for background and your documents verification. There are cases where the third party team visited schools of people who mentioned that they received BEST STUDENT AWARD while schooling :) to make sure the documents and certificates are not fake. Lock your percentage or aggregate with decimals, just remember 75.81% is never 76%.
I am advising you because, I don’t want any of you to lose this opportunity and I know some people are really in need of this job.

One more thing, I checked all your resumes and most of your resumes are not updated. Still they read your qualification as "Pursuing / studying final year".
Don’t worry -  I modified them, but make sure you update them immediately. Also, if someone asks you to send you the resume, don’t drop the email without any subject or notes in the email. I don’t want to take names, but 75% of you simply attached your resume without any notes in the email. Its ok for me, but your resume may not be considered and will simply go into trash folder if someone is irate. Just realize that 'YOU are in need of a job.. not the person who is referring you.'

Also a suggestion, if anyone ask you for a resume - make sure it is in 2003 word document format and the email address is not hyperlinked (many people miss underscores) and I prefer resume in Black and White color with Universal font and no designs.
I laughed louder for a while after looking at one of your resume which read hobbies as 'fighting'. Please avoid such hobbies. :) :)
Also never place your name in brackets when you are sending a resume online. Brackets should be used only if you sign it.

I would like to write more, but time is running out.. Again, please do not fill the form which was sent to you without confirmation.
Catch me on 9908020367 anytime if you have any queries. Hope to see you all at IBM soon if everything works good. All the best guys. You are ON

Note : You are not yet selected. You need to attend a couple of interview rounds (1,2 rounds in telephone, final round in face to face). Try hard on every step to own this job. Check your emails regularly and be alert and answer your calls (especially 2:00 PM to 8:00 PM).  Trust me - no company will give you employee satisfaction as IBM.

Some people not only expect opportunity to knock, they expect it to beat down the door.
